Lawsuit filed Against Lockport Police Officer for Fatal DUI Accident

Steven B. Harris, representing the family of Man Wong, has filed a wrongful death suit seeking $20 million against off-duty police officer Edward Stapinski. While intoxicated and a blood alcohol level of approximately three times the legal limit, Stapinski struck and killed 29 year old Man Wong while driving on the Stevenson Expressway. Stapinski lost control of his vehicle, flipped over the concrete median, and entered oncoming traffic where he struck Wong’s 2007 Toyota Camry. Stapinski has also been criminally charged with reckless homicide and aggravated drunken driving.

Westend Bar and Grill and the company that operated the bar are also named in the suit for serving Stapinski alcohol which caused or contributed to his intoxication , making them liable under the Illinois state’s dram shop laws.
